Most companies, as well as freelancers, need to operate motor vehicles in their business activities.

However, there are administrative obligations associated with operating company cars, whether cars or trucks.

Employers of company car drivers have a number of obligations. The employer must regularly, clearly and demonstrably familiarise each employee with the law
and other regulations to ensure occupational health and safety, including for drivers of company cars.

The familiarisation shall be carried out 1×24 months, by a qualified competent person.

In addition, the employer is obliged to inform employees about how first aid is administered, so a course is required. Similarly, information on other measures and procedures that would be necessary in the event that a human life is endangered.

The driver of a company vehicle is any person who uses a company vehicle regardless of the purpose of use.

In addition, we distinguish groups:

  • Driver referent – is a driver of a motor vehicle up to 3.5t who drives his own or employer’s vehicle on a business trip, but driving is not his main activity,
  • professional driver up to 3.5t – is a driver of a motor vehicle up to 3.5t whose main occupation is driving a motor vehicle,
  • repairer, maintenance technician – a repairer or maintenance technician in an auto repair shop who inspects, maintains, and repairs motor vehicles,
  • lead worker – a worker who manages the activities of a driver clerk or a professional driver or a repairer, maintenance worker (must have the necessary qualifications to be able to manage the activity responsibly
    – training).

The purpose of the familiarisation is:

  • familiarise drivers, driver-representatives, maintenance or repair drivers and managers
    with occupational safety in the operation, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles,
  • to inform those involved of the potential hazards, dangers and risks of their activities,
  • to inform those involved of specific injuries, accidents that have occurred during operation, maintenance
    maintenance and repair of motor vehicles,
  • to inform about the correct record-keeping of driving time.
